Visakhapatnam, December 27: In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded two years ago on November 18, 2021, in the Malkapuram area of the city, a woman tragically lost her life, and a youth sustained injuries in a gas-related accident. The catastrophic event also resulted in the destruction of a residence. Shockingly, the incident occurred in close proximity to the Hindustan Petroleum Gas Company, where authorities are alleged to have failed in providing timely assistance. Vistarana Info, an organization actively involved in such emergencies, extended immediate support. However, medical aid was reportedly not provided as per established guidelines. Korikana Sujatha, Vice President of Vistarana Info, expressed concerns over the delay in assistance. It was revealed that the organization has been actively engaged in securing insurance assistance for victims of gas-related accidents. In the present case, the gas company has informed the insurance company, and officials have responded by providing insurance assistance of Rs.8 lakhs to the affected parties. In a significant gesture, DGM LPG Region & CPIO of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), Annavarapu Sundara Vadan, handed over a cheque of Rs.8 lakhs to Akkivarapu Suresh Kumar, the son of the deceased Akkivarapu Narayanamma. Akkivarapu Muralikrishna, another brother, expressed sincere gratitude to Vistarana Info for their timely liaison and communication efforts with authorities, acknowledging the organization’s crucial role in securing insurance amount during the crisis. Highlighting a broader societal issue, Sujatha emphasized the communication gap and urged awareness of relevant laws. She encouraged individuals facing similar challenges to reach out to their organization for assistance. Previously, Vistarana Info had tirelessly worked to secure insurance assistance totaling Rs.24 lakhs for four victims of a cooking gas accident in Anantapur district from the OMC Indan gas company. The incident in Malkapuram underscores the need for improved emergency responses and heightened public safety awareness.
